SUBLETTE - Eugene “Gene” A. Leffelman, 78, of Sublette died on March 1, 2021 at his home with his sons by his side following a short illness.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 4 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Sublette Community Building in Sublette. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 5 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Sublette followed by burial at St. Mary Cemetery in Sublette. Arrangements were handled by the Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy.
Gene was born June 21, 1942 in Sublette to Charles and Mildred (Kuebel) Leffelman. He married Wanda Sue Fischer on Nov. 7, 1964 in Sublette. She preceded him in death on Sept. 2, 1995. He then married Faye E. Chesley on Jan. 30, 1998 in Amboy and she preceded him in death on April 12, 2013.
Survivors include his children, Shawn (Nancy Heller) Leffelman of Sublette, Scott (Jamie Rodriguez) Leffelman of Amboy and Sara Leffelman of California; three step children, Randall (Brenda) Chesley of Rochelle, Rodney (Jennifer) Chesley of North Aurora and Raymond (Erin) Chesley of Dixon; 11 grandchildren, Whitney (Brandon) Miller, Tyler and Ryan Leffelman, Abby O’Malley, Max and Andy Wertz, Megan and Nathan Chesley, Samantha Chesley, Madelyn and Sydney Chesley; three great-grandchildren, Emersyn and Sloan Miller and Lincoln Chesley; his siblings, Larry (Rose) Leffelman of Sublette and Diane (Jim) Flaherty of Mendota; two brothers-in-law, Harold (Maryann) Fischer of Mendota and Ronald (Sharon) Laws of Belvidere; a sister-in-law, Lanita Stiles of Dixon; and special friend, Joyce Green of Amboy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter and son-in-law, Stacey and Rich Wertz; and one brother-in-law, John Stiles.
Gene was a lifelong farmer and mechanic at the VO Bonnell and Sons in Sublette. He was a devoted member of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Sublette, a 20-year member at the Sublette Fire Department and a 20-year director of the Sublette Farmers Elevator Board. He was also a member of the Dixon Elks Club and a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves.
