HARMON – Jeffrey Howard Morehead, 72, of Harmon, passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 6, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024, at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota.

Born on March 2, 1951, in Clinton, Iowa, Jeffrey was the cherished son of the late Howard and Marilyn (Bruckman) Morehead. Jeffrey, affectionately known as Jeff, married the love of his life, Barbara Truckenbrod, on Sept. 11, 1976, at Zion Lutheran Church. Together, they were blessed with three children.

Jeff's legacy lives on through his sons, Joshua (Katie) of Fayetteville, N.C., and Jacob of Harmon; his daughter, Molly Thomson of Mobile, Ala.; his cherished grandchildren, Brady, Chandler (Crystal), Abby, Addason, and Jane; his great-granddaughter Madalyn; and numerous nephews and nieces.

He is predeceased by his beloved wife Barbara, his parents, his brother James, and sister Cheryl Ann.

A proud Vietnam veteran, Jeff served honorably with the 101st Airborne Division as a radio operator and mechanic. His dedication to community service was evident not only in his role as an alderman for the Village of Harmon beginning in 1989 but also in his later years as mayor, a position he held with distinction for over 20 years until his passing. One of Jeff's most enduring contributions to the community was leading the initiative to build the park in Harmon, a project that brought joy and recreation to many.

For over 39 years, Jeff was a dedicated welder-fabricator at Black Brothers in Mendota, retiring in 2016. His passions included gardening, woodworking, and a variety of outdoor activities such as camping, fishing, and archery.
