Mendota scored many of its runs early and then held on for a 9-8 triumph over Plano in a non-conference varsity girls’ softball game on April 13 at the MHS field.

Mendota and Hinckley-Big Rock played to a 1-1 tie in varsity girls’ soccer action on April 15 at Hinckley.

ROCKFORD – The Mendota girls’ track team put forth a solid effort in claiming three first-place finishes and a fifth-place showing in the team standings of the Rockford Christian Co-ed Invitational on April 20 at Rockford.

PRINCETON – Mendota went up against four other teams in the Princeton Ferris Invitational on April 15 at Princeton.

Mendota held off Princeton for an 8-7 victory in Three Rivers Conference varsity baseball action on April 15 at Princeton.

ROCK FALLS – Mendota participated in a three-team co-ed track meet at Rock Falls on April 11.

The Mendota varsity boys’ tennis team fell to Yorkville, 5-0, on April 10 at Yorkville.

Only one goal was scored and fortunately it was Mendota that scored it in a 1-0 triumph over Princeton in varsity girls’ soccer play on April 9 at the MHS field.

Hall and Mendota played a baseball game over two days that went to the Red Devils, 6-1, at the MHS field. The game was started on April 11 and was halted by rain, then finished on April 12.

SPRING VALLEY – The Mendota track teams traveled to Spring Valley to participate in the Hall Rollie Morris Invitational on April 13.

A late-inning rally propelled the Mendota varsity softball team to a 9-8 win over Hall in Three Rivers Conference action on April 9 at Spring Valley.

SAVOY – Mendota’s boys’ and girls’ bowling teams competed in the Brian Hodge Memorial Tournament on Jan. 6 at Savoy.

It was a rough weekend for the Mendota varsity boys’ basketball team as it was beaten by area rivals Princeton and LaSalle-Peru.

MENDOTA – Mendota had trouble shooting the basketball and Bureau Valley did not, which resulted in a lopsided 59-17 win for the Storm in Three Rivers Conference varsity girls’ basketball action on Jan. 4 at the MHS gym.

Princeton used a strong fourth quarter to claim a 49-40 victory over Mendota in a Three Rivers Conference sophomore boys’ basketball game on Jan. 5 at the Mendota gym.

AMBOY – Mendota wrestlers participated in the Amboy Junior Varsity Tournament on Jan. 6.

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) will host two public meetings in Lee and Bureau counties to provide information about the recent detection of chronic wasting disease, its effect on free-ranging deer populations, and IDNR’s efforts to control the disease.

AMBOY – The Mendota Lady Trojans competed in the Amboy Holiday Tournament held Dec. 26-29. The squad finished in fourth place.

PLANO – The Mendota Trojans finished in 13th place in the Plano Christmas Classic held Dec. 27-30.

PLANO – The Mendota junior varsity boys’ basketball team finished in eighth place in the 16-team Plano Junior Varsity Christmas Classic.

The Mendota Trojan wrestlers went up against five other teams in the Sandwich Dual Meet on Dec. 27.

MENDOTA – When contestants of the Mendota Sweet Corn Pageant are getting ready for the annual event, they are usually waiting for the summer to get over so they can go to college or are working shifts around their pageant schedule.

BLOOMINGTON – Illinois High School Association (IHSA) member schools approved 12 of 14 amendment proposals that appeared on the all-school ballot during the annual by-law referendum process that ended on Dec. 19, 2023.
