City Council increases amount of gaming licenses allowed in Mendota

MENDOTA – The Mendota City Council increased the number of video gaming licenses allowed in the city and approved several ordinances and requests at its April 15 regular meeting.

ALDERMANIC REPORTS

Alderman Jay Miller presented a video gaming ordinance for the council’s consideration that would update the ordinance to new standards set forth by the state of Illinois. After discussion revealed that the city allows 22 video gaming ordinances and 27 liquor licenses, the council agreed to adopt the ordinance with wording that increases the number of video gaming licenses allowed to 27.

Also from Miller’s report, the council approved liquor license renewals for 2024.

Alderman Leo Hochstatter presented three items that were approved by the council. First, the council agreed to adopt the annual wage ordinance. The council also approved budget amendments for fiscal year 2024. Finally, the council accepted a request from the Mendota Area Chamber of Commerce to donate $6,500 to the Chamber for use in promoting and conducting the Sweet Corn Festival.

Alderman Jim Fitzpatrick announced that the Public Works Department will pick up yard waste throughout the city. Those residents wishing to have yard waste picked up at their property must have the yard waste at their curb by Monday, April 22, no exceptions.

Alderman John Hessenberger stated that Eddie Diaz has requested a zoning variance for 1314 1/2 Meriden St. The request will first be heard by the Planning and Zoning Commission at a meeting on Thursday, May 2 at 5:30 p.m.

MAYOR’S REPORT

Mayor David Boelk announced that April 14-20 is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.

The mayor stated that May is to be proclaimed Motorcycle Awareness Month.

Also from the mayor, he proclaimed May 4-18 to be National Prevention Weeks, and he said May 4 is Drug Take Back and Give Back Day, with an event to be held at the Mendota Civic Center.

Boelk said a Public Safety Committee meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. Monday, April 22 at the Mendota City Building on Washington Street.

The next regular meeting of the Mendota City Council will be Monday, May 6 at 5:30 p.m.
