Two MHS golfers earn all-conference honors

The Mendota varsity golf team finished in the upper half of the pack in the Three Rivers Conference Golf Tournament on Sept. 20 at Highland Springs in Rock Island.

The Trojans had a team total of 341 to take sixth place in the 13-team tournament. The top five finishers were Riverdale (317), Newman (321), Sherrard (327), Princeton (334) and St. Bede (339). Placing behind Mendota were Hall (343), Bureau Valley (347), Monmouth-Roseville (349), Orion (380), Rockridge (393), Kewanee (398) and Erie-Prophetstown (408).

Drake Dennis turned in the low score for Mendota with an 82, which was good enough for 11th place overall. Teammate Owen Aughenbaugh placed 17th in the individual standings with an 83. They were both named second-team all-conference for their efforts.

Also competing for the Trojans were Clay Buffington (88), Brody Hartt (88), Cale Strouss (91) and Braden McPheeters (96).

Andrew Boland of Sherrard and Jake Delaney of St. Bede tied for the overall low score at 74. Boland defeated Delaney on the second playoff hole to claim the individual title.

Mendota hosted the Modified Ryder Cup on Sept. 24 at the Mendota Golf Club.

Teaming up for the Trojans were Jack Mikolasek-Braden McPheeters with an 87, Dennis-Dominik Stamberger with an 88 and Buffington-Cayden Escatel with a 94.

The duo of Fenza-Rundle from LaSalle-Peru took the top spot with a 74.

Ottawa claimed the team title with a 230, followed by L-P (242), Princeton (244) and St. Bede (245). Other participating teams were Morris (249), Bureau Valley (249), Hall (253), Putnam County (261), Stillman Valley (262), Rock Falls (268), Mendota (269) and Kewanee (296).
