ROCKFORD – For the second straight season, the Mendota varsity boys’ basketball team failed to win a Big Northern Conference game after Rockford Lutheran roughed up the Trojans, 88-38, in the league and regular season finale on Feb. 18 at Rockford. The Trojans concluded their BNC slate at 0-10.
Lutheran connected on 12 three-point field goals in the game, including four in the first frame that helped it zoom out to a 28-10 lead after the first eight-minute session. The Crusaders almost matched their first-quarter offensive output in the second stanza by pouring in 27 points to take a commanding 55-21 advantage to the locker room. The count stood at 77-25 entering the fourth quarter.
Three players shared top scoring honors with eight points apiece for the Trojans – Emiliano Arteaga, Chris Sandoval and Cole Stremlau.
Mendota entered regional action on Tuesday night with a 2-29 record.
