Trojans extend unbeaten streak

The Mendota Trojans whitewashed Streator, 8-0, in varsity boys’ soccer action on Sept. 18 at Streator.

Eight different MHS players scores goals: Kaleb Kleckner, Isaac Diaz, Johan Cortez, Cesar Casas, Angel Orozco, Sebastian Carlos, Sam Matura and Bryan Herrera. Picking up assists were Mauricio Martinez, Izaiah Nanez, Cameron Kelly, Cortez and Carlos.

Mateo Goy had two goalie saves.


The Trojans handled Princeton, 7-0, on Sept. 19 at Princeton.

Cesar Casas and Carlos both had a pair of goals for Mendota, while David Casas, Cortez and Mauricio Salinas added a goal apiece. Assists went to David Casas, Diaz and Cortez.


Monmouth-Roseville gave the Trojans all they could handle before Mendota knocked in a goal in the second half to pull out a 1-0 win on Sept. 23 at the MHS field.

Diaz slammed home the goal off an assist from Cesar Casas to provide the winning margin.

Goy had four goalie saves for the Trojans, who are 15-0-1.
