Trojan kickers get back on winning track

The Mendota boys’ soccer team got back on the winning track with a 4-0 blanking of Genoa-Kingston on March 30 at the MHS field.

Ricky Orozco had the hat trick for the Trojans, booting in three of the four goals. Yahir Diaz recorded the other goal as well as two assists, while Johnathan Cortez added an assist.

Manny Trejo posted another shutout with seven saves in goal.

Mendota’s junior varsity squad claimed a 1-0 win with Izaiah Nanez tallying the lone goal.

The Trojans came away with a penalty shootout 4-3 victory over Rockford Christian on April 1 at Rockford. The game was tied at 3-3 after regulation and overtime.

Josue Arteaga tallied two goals for Mendota (5-1, 4-1) and Diaz got the other. Ricky Orozco added an assist.

Trejo had 10 saves in goal and came up huge in penalties, stopping two of them from Christian.

Mendota was a 4-0 winner in the junior varsity contest. The Trojans are 5-0 and still have not allowed a goal.

Edgar Arteaga had two goals for the winners, while Nanez and Jesus Orozco added one goal apiece. Iker Landeros and Eli Arjes were credited with assists.
