DE KALB - Paul L. Piatek, Sr., 65, of DeKalb died Dec. 29, 2017 at Kishwaukee Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6 at the Anderson Funeral Home, 2011 S. Fourth St., DeKalb. Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 5 at the funeral home.

Paul was born June 6, 1952 in Chicago to Francis and Doris (Peterson) Piatek. He married Karen L. Anda on Aug. 30, 1991 in Sycamore.

Survivors include his wife of DeKalb; his children, Paul (Amy) Piatek of Polo, Jessica Piatek of DeKalb, Matt Galijatovic of Paw Paw and Jennifer (Michael) Clark of Byron; eight grandchildren, Bradley, Grace, Kyle, Jacob, Zachary, Adisyn, Anne and Mallory; one sister, Carolyn Piatek of Providence, R.I.; one brother, Francis (Judith) Piatek Jr. of Chicago; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Paul was formerly employed by World Book Encyclopedia and later, at Northern Illinois University as a computer operator. He enjoyed his farm and caring for his horses for 19 years in rural Lee. He was a former Cub Scout and Boy Scout and served on the residence council at DeKalb County Rehab and Nursing Center.
