OTTAWA – The Mendota High School girls’ tennis season came to a close after the team participated in the Ottawa Sectional held on Oct. 16-17.
In singles competition, Mendota’s Maddy Pappas and Mary DeFore each lost their only match. Pappas was defeated by Libby Wright of Morris, 6-1, 6-0, while Kayla Walker of Morris eliminated DeFore, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.
In doubles action, Mendota’s Lizzie Bresley and Zoe Finley won their opening match over Syria Zuniga and Charlee Bourell of Streator, 6-3, 7-5, before the MHS duo dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision to Lauren Klein and Brianna Strehl of LaSalle-Peru.
The Lady Trojans’ other doubles team of Natalie Orozco and KayLee Barkman was knocked out of the competition by the Streator duo of Haley Berry and Lara Berry, 6-2, 6-2.
Ottawa won the team title with 32 points, while LaSalle-Peru (24), Morris (16), Coal City (12) and St. Bede (8) finished in the top five. Mendota, Streator and Princeton each had four points. Marquette and Pontiac did not score.
