MORRISON – Former LaMoille resident, Kimberly Souba has launched a new book, “A Caterpillar’s Journey.” The children’s book, which tells the story of a caterpillar who desires to be a butterfly, is illustrated by Alaina Selzler of Jamestown, N.D.

After publishing her first book, “From Death to New Life: The Transformation of Soul” in November 2020, Souba was inspired by children in her life to think about writing a children’s book. An elementary teacher at Tampico Elementary school, Souba wrote “A Caterpillar’s Journey” was written when she was home on a snow day in February. The book is based on her love for butterflies and to help children overcome all the negative thoughts and attitudes that others place on them.

Souba says “A Caterpillar’s Journey” can teach children the importance of being kind and friendly or how to overcome bullying. A teenager and/or adult might see the theme of listening to their parent for advice, while a person of faith may see the theme of relying on God for His perfect timing in all things. It just depends on where the person is at in their own life.

“I’m a huge fan of Max Lucado, a Christian author who provides themes in his children’s books for people of all ages. It does not matter if you are 4 or 94. Everyone will get something different out of his writings. That is how I want to write my children’s books,” Souba explained.

Souba will hold a children’s event at Graves-Hume Public Library in Mendota on Saturday, July 10 beginning at 11 a.m. She will read the book to the children and other activities are also planned. The event is open to the public and a library card is not required. Souba will be on hand to sign copies of her book, which will also be available to purchase.
