MENDOTA – John G. Stephenitch, 63, of Mendota, passed away March 13, 2023 in his home with family at his side.

Funeral services will be Monday, March 20, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota with Father Jeff Windy officiating. Private family only burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Sublette. Visitation will be Sunday from 1-4 p.m. at the Merritt Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Monday. A memorial Mass will be said by Father Fronek at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Sublette at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2023.

John was born April 3, 1959 in Mendota to Richard and Rosemary (Shannon) Stephenitch. 

He is survived by his significant other Teresa File Dorsey; his sisters, Kathi (Bob) Sheridan of Mendota, Peggy (Dave) Joerger of Ballwin, Mo., Patty (Ron) Contreras of Houston, Texas and Barb (Chris) Notz of Springfield; his brothers, Jim Stephenitch and Gene (Cindy) Stephenitch, both of Mendota; nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews and special children Jody (Jake) Noble, Mike (Jeanette) Dorsey, Brian (Amy) Dorsey, Jared (Taylor) Hitchins and Tonya (Ross) Alff; special grandchildren and special great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

John graduated from Mendota High School in 1977. He graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1981 with a bachelor’s degree in business. He co-owned and operated the long-time family business Stephenitch Hardware with his brother Gene. He was a member of Mendota Elks Lodge 1212. John loved watching the Chicago Bears and drag racing.
