MENDOTA – A house fire destroyed an attached garage and did heavy damage to a Mendota residence at 1507 Indiana Ave. on April 26.
The Mendota Fire Department received the call at 3:30 p.m. of a fire in the garage-breezeway area of the residence. Mendota and Mendota-Troy Grove departments responded with two engines, one tower, two heavy squads, one brush truck, one ambulance and the chief’s unit. The Mendota Police Department sent several officers to close off roadways leading to the residence.
Due to heavy fire conditions and strong wind, the fire soon engulfed a vehicle and extended into the residence. Additional units were called to the scene from LaSalle fire, Peru fire, Peru EMS, Earlville fire, Paw Paw fire, Sublette fire and Amboy fire.
Firefighters and emergency personnel were on scene for approximately two hours. The cause of the fire is listed as accidental. There were no injuries.
