Final timeline given for payment of LaSalle County real estate taxes

OTTAWA – LaSalle County Treasurer James L. Spelich has announced the final timeline to pay 2023 real estate taxes.
If your unpaid real estate taxes are not in the Treasurer’s office by Thursday, Sept. 28, you will receive a certified letter. A $10 certified letter fee is added to any payments received in the office after Sept. 28. Please note that the interest changes after the sixth of each month. Due to the timing of the letters, they will reflect interest as of Oct. 7, 2023.
For the amount due, call the Treasurer’s office at 815-434-8219 option 4 or refer to your tax bill. The $10 certified letter fee must be included in all payments not in the office by Sept. 28.
The last day to accept personal checks or pay by echeck online is Monday, Oct. 2.
Starting Tuesday, Oct. 3, cash, certified funds, cashier’s check, money order and credit card will be the only forms of payment accepted. You can pay by credit card online until Monday, Nov. 13 and in the Treasurer’s office until Tuesday, Nov. 14 no later than 3 p.m.
The last day to pay before your name is published in the newspaper is Friday, Oct. 13.
The week of Oct. 16, all unpaid taxes will be published in local newspapers.
The drop box will be closed on Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 3 p.m.
The last day to pay your taxes before they are sold at the tax sale is Tuesday, Nov. 14. All payments must be in the Treasurer’s office by 4:30 p.m. Nov. 14. No payments, even postmarked payments, will be accepted after Nov. 14. All unpaid taxes will be sold Wednesday, Nov. 15.
