LA MOILLE - Douglas A. Sterchi, 86, of LaMoille, passed away April 13, 2021 at the Lena Living Center in Lena after a 15-year decline from Alzheimer’s and genetic dementia.
Cremation rites have been accorded and burial of ashes will be at Union Cemetery in LaMoille. There will be no services. The Leamon Funeral Home, Lena is assisting the family, who will hold a celebration of life later.
Doug was born Jan. 5, 1935 in Mendota to Albert and Elizabeth (Ryan) Sterchi. He married Mary Sheridan on June 14, 1953.
Survivors include his caregiver and wife of 67 years, Mary Sterchi of LaMoille; one daughter, Sue (Dan) Ensrude of Mineral Point, Wis.; two sons, Dave (Lynn) Sterchi of Cape Coral, Fla. and Kim (Donna) Sterchi of Crystal Lake; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph and four sisters, Mabel Behringer, Marjorie Mudge, Jean Bauer and 2-year-old Betty June Sterchi.
Doug worked in the printing industry in graphic design for 42 years, retiring in 1997 from R.R. Donnelly, Mendota. He was a self-taught carpenter, building his own home in rural LaMoille and living there for over 40 years.
