MENDOTA – The Mendota City Council handled several items of business at its Sept. 5 regular meeting.

Alderman John Hessenberger presented a zoning variance request from Kurt Bruno at 40 N. 42nd Road, which was approved by the council. The zoning variance is for the construction of a shed that is one foot over the allowed height.

Alderman Jim Fitzpatrick informed fellow council members of a request from the Mendota Area Christian Food Pantry to hold a ‘Bucket Brigade’ fundraising event on Friday, Sept. 22. The council voted to allow the event, which will be conducted at the intersection of Main and Meriden streets.

Alderwoman Vicki Johnson issued a thank you to the city and everyone else involved in the first day of the “Food Truck MAINia” held on Aug. 28. She said it was a very successful start to the event with more than 200 people in attendance. The food truck program will continue on the second and fourth Mondays of the month through Nov. 13 from 4-8 p.m. in the IC parking lot and parking lot #2 on Main Street in downtown Mendota. It features food trucks as well as music and raffles.
