Superb pitching and timely hitting lifted the Mendota Trojans to a 5-1 win over Stillman Valley in a Big Northern Conference game on April 30 at Stillman Valley.
Garet Zinke was masterful on the mound, going the distance to pick up the win. He allowed seven hits, one run, struck out eight and did not issue a walk.
The Trojan offense managed just six hits, but three were for extra bases.
Mendota got the scoring started in the first inning when Jaron Robinson clouted a two-run homer.
The scored remained that way until Stillman Valley tallied its lone run in the bottom of the sixth.
Mendota was able to widen the gap in the top of the seventh when it pushed three runs across the plate.
In addition to his homer, Robinson also doubled and totaled three runs batted in. Juan Gonzalez picked up a single and a double for the Trojans, who moved to 3-3 in the league.

Five errors proved costly to the Trojans in a 7-3 setback at Oregon on May 1.
The Hawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning before the Trojans fought back and tied the game with two in the second and one in the fourth. But Oregon broke the tie with a two-run fifth frame and added two more in the sixth to claim the Big Northern victory.
Robinson was the losing pitcher, going 4 2/3 innings. He allowed six hits, five runs (three earned), walked five and fanned four. Matt Dornink went the rest of the way on the hill.
Mendota finished with eight hits, including a single, double and three RBI by Evan Weber.

Mendota suffered a hard-fought 10-8 loss to Oregon in a Big Northern Conference varsity baseball game on May 2 at the MHS diamond. The Trojans fell to 3-5 in conference play.
Oregon held a 9-3 lead heading to the bottom of the sixth when the Trojans attempted a comeback. They scored four times in the bottom of the inning to climb to within a 9-7 count.
Both teams exchanged runs in the seventh and the game ended with the two-run margin.
Each team banged out 15 hits. Robinson paced the Trojan attack with three doubles, a single and three runs batted in. The rest of Mendota hits were singles. Weber had three, while Zinke and Evan Schultz had two singles apiece.
Weber started on the hill for the Trojans and allowed 13 hits and eight runs in five innings. He walked two and struck out one. Shane Kruse pitched the final two frames.

Rockford Christian made short work of the Trojans, winning 13-3 in a five-inning game on May 5 at Rockford.
Christian led 5-3 heading to the bottom of the fifth when it scored eight times to halt the game.
Mendota managed just four singles, by Gonzalez, Robinson, Zinke and Kruse.
Nathanael DeLong pitched four innings and took the loss. Mark Zimmerman came on in relief.
