Posted: Tuesday, May 6th, 2014

Superb pitching and timely hitting lifted the Mendota Trojans to a 5-1 win over Stillman Valley in a Big Northern Conference game on April 30 at Stillman Valley.

Garet Zinke was masterful on the mound, going the distance to pick up the win. He allowed seven hits, one run, struck out eight and did not issue a walk.

The Trojan offense managed just six hits, but three were for extra bases.

Mendota got the scoring started in the first inning when Jaron Robinson clouted a two-run homer.

The scored remained that way until Stillman Valley tallied its lone run in the bottom of the sixth.

Mendota was able to widen the gap in the top of the seventh when it pushed three runs across the plate.

In addition to his homer, Robinson also doubled and totaled three runs batted in. Juan Gonzalez picked up a single and a double for the Trojans, who moved to 3-3 in the league.
