MENDOTA – The leaves are falling and the city of Mendota workers will be there to collect them starting next week, said Street Superintendent Carl Ambler at the Mendota City Council regular meeting on Oct. 7.
Ambler said the leaf vacuum program will kick off on Tuesday, Oct. 15 and will follow the same procedure as in the past. Leaves, and only leaves (no sticks, limbs, etc.) will be picked up, and those wishing to have them removed by the city vac are to place them at the curbside, but not in the road. The pickup schedule will be the day after your regular garbage pickup.
Ambler also informed the council that there has been a lot of vandalism in the city parks, especially to the rest rooms. He said huge rocks and other debris were placed in the toilets at the park near Route 251 at Lake Mendota, and the vandalism has done a lot of damage and caused a lot of city worker time spent on repairing it. He asked the public for its help in reporting anything suspicious being done in city parks to the Mendota Police Department.
City engineer Ed King said the road patch work where the new water main was installed for the CVS Pharmacy building has been completed in the area of Wisconsin Avenue and Susanna Street.
