Trojans split 4 soccer games

Mendota had an up and down week on the soccer field as the season heads toward the final regular season stretch before post-season tournament time rolls around.

The Trojans traveled to Oregon on Sept. 24 and lost a tight 2-1 contest.

Omar Bugarin tallied Mendota’s goal with an assist from Nick Phalen. Davy Arteaga had five goalie saves.

Mendota posted a 3-0 shutout victory over Rockford Lutheran on Sept. 26 at the MHS Athletic Complex.

Bugarin had the hat trick for the Trojans, scoring all three goals. Daniel Hernandez picked up one assist. Arteaga kept six shots from reaching the goal.

Mendota was edged by Harvard, 4-3, on Sept. 28 at the MHS Athletic Complex. The Trojans trailed 3-1 at halftime.

Rafael Hernandez scored on a penalty kick to give Mendota a 1-0 lead. Bugarin and Javier Rosales added second-half goals. Daniel Hernandez recorded as assist and Arteaga had 10 goalie saves.

Mendota jumped on Byron early and posted a comfortable 7-0 win on Sept. 30 at Byron.

Ivan Pantoja scored a goal 1:04 into game and then Phalen added another in the seventh minute assisted by Daniel Hernandez for a 2-0 Trojan lead at halftime.

Bugarin extended his scoring streak to six games by drilling home two goals assisted by Irving Avila and Jared Wiley. Rafael Hernandez converted a penalty kick and Luis Valdez finished the scoring on an assist from Javier Hernandez.
