Olivet Dean's List

BOURBONNAIS - Adam Weeks of LaMoille was named to the dean's list at Olivet Nazarene University during the spring 2013 semester. To qualify for the dean's list, a student must have been enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student and must have attained a semester grade point average of 3.50 or higher on a 4.00 grading scale.

Rockford College Distinguished Scholar

ROCKFORD - Chad Hochstatter of Mendota has been announced as a distinguished scholar for the spring 2013 semester at Rockford College. To qualify, students must earn a 3.75 grade point average or higher with no grades below "C."

Illinois Central College Dean's List

EAST PEORIA - Kye Denault of Troy Grove was named to the dean's list at Illinois Central College for the spring 2013 semester. The academic honor is presented to students who earn a 3.5 to 3.99 grade point average on a 4.0 grading scale.

Kishwaukee Part-Time Honors List

Kishwaukee College has announced its part-time student honors list for spring 2013. Local students include: Mendota: Sharon Hall; Compton: Pamela Seyller; Earlville: Michaela Cowan; Paw Paw: Kasie Crawford, Erendira Franco, Brian Lambert, Devyn Siemers, Nicholas Siemers and Justin Wiley.

To be eligible for this honor, a student must have completed a minimum of six (but less than 12) semester hours of college-level courses at Kishwaukee with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

Loyola graduate

CHICAGO – Laura Phalen of Mendota graduated magna cum laude from Loyola University Chicago on May 10 with a B.A. in sociology/anthropology. She was named to the College of Arts and Sciences’ dean’s list for the second semester and received the Durkheim Award for outstanding sociology and anthropology senior at a ceremony on April 26. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Delta, the sociology honor society.

Phalen is the daughter of Craig and Luci Phalen of Mendota.

Earlville student tours Europe

JACKSONVILLE - Steven Rippo of Earlville participated in a recent Illinois College student “BreakAway” through Europe, which focused on a connection between food, culture and travel writing. The trip was appropriately called "Chocolate, Cheese, and Ciabatta: Cultures and Cuisines of Central Europe" as the group of 13 students and two professors visited Germany, Switzerland and Italy.

Rippo is a graduate of Earlville Junior-Senior High School, and a 2013 graduate of Illinois College.

UW-Platteville graduate

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - Patrick Doughty, an industrial technology management major from Mendota, graduated during the May 11 commencement ceremony held at University of Wisconsin-Platteville's Williams Fieldhouse. This graduation marked the largest spring commencement in UW-Platteville's history, with a total of 1,081 graduate and undergraduate candidates.

Doughty was also named to the Chancellor's List for the spring 2013 semester by earning a 4.0 grade point average. The Chancellor's List represents the highest academic achievement at UW- Platteville.

Aurora University Dean's List

AURORA - Aurora University congratulates more than 800 undergraduate students who earned dean's list honors for the spring 2013 semester. Among them are local students Daniel Angulo, Sara Cornelius and William Lashonse of Mendota; Sarah Schilling of Earlville; and Haley Studebaker of West Brooklyn.

The high honors list recognizes students who attain a 4.0 grade-point average while completing at least 12 credit hours during the semester. The regular honors list recognizes students who achieve a GPA of 3.6 to 3.99.

Augustana College Dean's List

ROCK ISLAND - Katelynn Kidd of Paw Paw and Lorraine Stamberger of La Moille are among 883 students named to the dean's list at Augustana College for the 2013 spring term. To earn this academic honor, students must maintain a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale for courses taken during the term.

Kidd is a junior majoring in business administration-management and accounting and Stamberger is a junior majoring in geography.
