Trojan netters stay busy, stay competitive

Mendota rolled up a 4-1 victory over Princeton in varsity tennis action on April 25 at the MHS courts.

Cody Phalen captured a win at No. 1 singles action for the Trojans, while all three doubles teams came out on top. They included James Carroll-Mark Prescott at No. 1, Jon Hohertz-Nick Phalen at No. 2 and Ben Foley-Jim Bruno at No. 3.

Mendota was third out of eight teams in the Yorkville Doubles Shootout on April 26. Aurora Marmion finished first with 72 points and Yorkville was second with 61. Teams placing behind the Trojans (57 points) were Minooka, Coal City, Aurora East, Romeoville and Aurora Central Catholic.

Carroll and Prescott played No. 1 doubles for Mendota and finished in fifth place. Cody Phalen and Joey Meyer teamed up to place third at No. 2 doubles, while Jon Hohertz and Nick Phalen were sixth at No. 3 doubles.

The Trojans didnít get much rest before they were right back on the courts, this time in the Rochelle Hub Invitational on April 27. Rochelle won the team title, followed by Mendota, Sterling Newman and Princeton.

At No. 1 singles, Cody Phalen finished in second place, as did teammate Meyer at No. 2 singles.

In doubles action, the Carroll-Prescott tandem was second at No. 1, while No. 2 Hohertz-N. Phalen and No. 3 Foley-Bruno took third place.
