SPRING VALLEY - Minnie Viola Bodenhamer, 98, of Spring Valley died peacefully on March 19, 2013.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on March 23 at Shooting Park Road Baptist Church, Peru with her grandson, Steve Davis, officiating. Burial was at Abingdon Cemetery in Abingdon. Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. on March 22 and for one hour prior to services on March 23 at the church. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota provided the arrangements.
Mrs. Bodenhamer was born Oct. 18, 1914 in Abingdon to Ira and Anna Belle Pool, the sixth of 12 children. She married Charles Bodenhamer on April 29, 1931 in Princeton. He preceded her in death in 1989.
Survivors include three children, Charlotte Gerald of Kirkwood, Carol Cromwell of LaMoille and Marilyn Davis of Spring Valley; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Irene Ecklund in 1976; and one son, Billie Bodenhamer in 2011.
Mrs. Bodenhamer owned and operated several cafés throughout the years. This type of work suited her well because she always served others with unconditional love. Her greatest joy was being with her family and giving of herself to them. She was known for her delicious meals, sewing and gardening. She loved gospel music, especially the old hymns. She was a member of Shooting Park Road Baptist Church, Peru.
