MENDOTA – Skating and insurance were the main topics of conversation at the Feb. 4 regular meeting of the Mendota City Council.
Per the recommendation of Mendota chief of police Tom Smith, the council voted unanimously to dismantle the Mendota Skate Park located in the Lake Mendota Park. The skate park has become more and more a place for vandalism and that was the main reason for closing the park.
Alderman Bill Hunt informed the council that he recently spent time meeting with the city's health insurance provider, Humana, and after much consternation, the city decided to continue its service with the company for 2013. Hunt said the annual premium increased by approximately 10 percent.
He emphasized that the city will continue to look at this aspect of its budget from year-to-year in order to get the best possible coverage for its employees while also getting the best financial deal with the city's taxpayers in mind.
