ROCKFORD - A nip and tuck battle between Mendota and Rockford Lutheran finally went to the Lady Crusaders, 68-59, in Big Northern Conference girls' basketball action on Jan. 4 at Rockford.
Mendota sprinted out to a 15-6 lead after the opening stanza, but Lutheran came back to tie the contest at 29-all at intermission. The game was still knotted at 44-44 with three quarters in the books before the Lady Crusaders exploded for 24 points in the fourth quarter compared to 15 for the Lady Trojans.
"It was a good game between two evenly matched teams," said Mendota coach Kevin Geldon. "Lutheran really picked up the offensive pace in the fourth quarter and we weren't able to match them."
Amy Devitt continued her torrid offensive pace for Mendota by pumping in a game-high 28 points. Brooke Carroll added 11 tallies and Ally Bromenschenkel had nine.
