MHS takes care of business in win over Stillman Valley

Posted: Tuesday, Jan 8th, 2013

James Carroll of Mendota has his shot contested by a Stillman Valley player on Jan. 5.

MENDOTA - Mendota was finally able to pull away from Stillman Valley in the fourth quarter to post a 69-52 victory over the Cardinals in Big Northern Conference play on Jan. 5 at the MHS gym.

The Trojans, who led 31-25 at the half, got out of the gate nicely to start the third period when they scored eight of the first 11 points thanks to a pair of three-pointers from Jon Gehm and a conventional bucket from Trae Blumhorst to grab a 41-32 lead. But Stillman Valley used some long-range marksmanship of its own by burying a trio of treys to pull back within a 51-45 count at the end of three quarters.

Blumhorst scored down low to start the fourth, followed by a trifecta from Mark Prescott and one free throw from Austin O'Sadnick for a 6-0 Trojan run to up the ante to 57-45.

Blumhorst topped the Trojan scoring column with 22 points, followed by James Carroll with 16 and Mark Prescott with 10. Blumhorst also led with nine rebounds, Evan Carroll handed out 10 assists and James Carroll collected five steals.
