AMBOY - Robert C. Flessner, 87, of Amboy died Nov. 23, 2012 at Rockford Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held on Nov. 27 beginning with a 10 a.m. prayer service at the Mihm-Jones Funeral Home followed by a 10:30 a.m. mass of Christian burial at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Amboy. Rev. Michael Morrissey officiated. Burial followed at St. Patrick Cemetery, Amboy with military honors by the Amboy American Legion Post. Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m. on Nov. 26 at the funeral home with the rosary at 7 p.m.

Mr. Flessner was born Aug. 12, 1925 in Amboy to Carl and Luella (Dewey) Flessner. He married Elaine Schultz on May 2, 1953 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mendota.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Joe (Marcia) Flessner of Amboy and Tim (Tami) Flessner of Sublette; four grandchildren, Kimberly (Nick) Mumm, Kayla Flessner, Kelly Flessner and Derek Flessner; three great grandchildren, Gage, Abel and Blake Mumm; one brother-in-law, Don Rhodes of Paxton; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Richard "Dick" Flessner; and one sister, Dorothy Rhodes.

Mr. Flessner worked for Commonwealth Edison for 41 years prior to his retirement. He was a veteran of the Navy during World War II and was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy.
