OREGON - Neither team displayed much offensive firepower, but Mendota's varsity boys had a little more in gaining a 37-33 triumph over Rockford Christian in the first round of the Oregon Thanksgiving Tournament on Nov. 19.
Trae Blumhorst's 13 points led the Trojans, while James Carroll chipped in with nine tallies. Leading the way in other categories were Blumhorst and Evan Carroll with eight rebounds apiece, Mark Prescott with four assists and Evan Carroll with four steals.

The Trojans won for the second straight time when they survived a hard-fought 40-33 contest against Byron on Nov. 21 at the Oregon Tournament.
Blumhorst's 17 points topped the Trojans, while James Carroll added eight markers. Blumhorst also led with 12 rebounds. James Carroll and Jon Gehm had three assists apiece, while Prescott and Evan Carroll each had a pair of steals.

Mendota earned a berth in the championship game with a convincing 67-50 triumph over Hampshire on Nov. 23.
A balanced scoring attack was led by James Carroll with 12 points, followed by Blumhorst with 11, Evan Carroll with 10 and Prescott with nine. Blumhorst topped the club with 10 rebounds, while Blumhorst and Prescott each had three assists. James Carroll posted three steals.

The Trojans took second place in the tournament after a 59-56 setback to Oregon in the championship game on Nov. 24.
"I'm very proud of our kids' effort," said coach Jan Thompson. "It's been a long time since we started the year 3-1.
"We played hard for 32 minutes, coming back from 10 points down twice. We had a team goal of getting to the championship game and we accomplished that goal."
Four players scored in double figures, led by Blumhorst, Gehm and O'Sadnick with 13 points apiece. Gehm hit four three-pointers. James Carroll added 12 points. Blumhorst hauled down eight rebounds, while Gehm and James Carroll each had four assists.
