MENDOTA - The Save-A-Lot grocery store in Mendota will be closing its doors in mid-December in preparation for the construction of a new facility on the current location at the corner of 13th Avenue and Meriden Street.
According to Kathy Christensen, spokesperson for the local Save-A-Lot, demolition on the old building will begin immediately after closing and work will commence on a new 13,500 square foot structure.
"We felt it was better to tear down the whole building and start from scratch in constructing the new one," said Christensen. "We want to do it right from the beginning."
The site will also include a new 6,000 square foot building that will be available as rental space.
Christensen added that the weather will play a major role in the completion of the new grocery store, however, they would like to be open by late spring or sometime in the summer.
