DIXON - Even in rural Lee County, many families are not involved in farming. Interestingly, many of them have never even visited a farm. As a result, Americans - even in rural areas - are getting more and more removed from food production.

In an effort to help reconnect consumers with their food source, the Lee County Farm Bureau Public Relations Committee is hosting the Lee County Field Moms program to give non-farm moms the opportunity to visit farms and have conversations with area farmers about farming.

On Saturday, Oct. 27, the Field Moms toured Sheaffer Acres, owned by Lee County Farm Bureau president Jim Sheaffer.

For more information about farming or food production, contact the Lee County Farm Bureau at (815) 857-3531 or visit www.watchusgrow.org.
