The Mendota High School cross country team journeyed to Oregon for a meet featuring runners from ten Northern Illinois high schools on Sept. 26.
Shelby Hunter of Oregon won the girls' race of 92 runners with a time of 20:27, edging out Rockford Lutheran's Julie Buzzard (20:28). Erica Lowry of Rockford Boylan was third with a time of 20:34.
Emily Ross finished 11th as Mendota's top finisher in a time of 21:47.
In the 86-member boys' race it was Boylan's Jonah Niedermeier (16:50) comfortably ahead of Lutheran's Matthew Kortze (2nd, 17:25) and Durand-Pecatonica's Grant Colburn (3rd, 17:34).
Mendota was led by Ethan Sack's seventh-place performance of 17:48.

Mendota competed against LaSalle-Peru and St. Bede on Oct. 1 at Peru.
L-P harriers took the top two spots on the 3-mile course, with Mendota's Ross placing third in 21:17.
Mendota's Sack was first to the finish in the boys' run, with a time of 17:26.
