MENDOTA - Gladys Zimmerman, 101, of Mendota, formerly of Compton, died Feb. 10, 2014 at the Mendota Lutheran Home.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Compton. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14 at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota.
Gladys was born April 1, 1912 on the family farm just south of Compton to William and Lena (Schmidt) Florschuetz. She married Roland Zimmerman on April 30, 1941 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Compton. He preceded her in death in 2012.
Survivors include one daughter, Diane (Ryall) Wilson of San Diego, Calif.; two sons, Tom Zimmerman of St. Charles and Leslie (Anna) Zimmerman of Clinton, Ind.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, William Florschuetz; and one sister, Ruth Becker.
Gladys was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Compton. She provided a wonderful home for her family and demonstrated her kind and generous heart through involvement in community, school, church and scouting activities. She loved gardening and nature and created many things of beauty throughout her life. She had a sense of humor that brought joy to everyone she met.
