Lee R. Mays

WEST BROOKLYN - Lee R. Mays, 82, of West Brooklyn died Nov. 3, 2013 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 8 at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota with Rev. Jamie Wallace officiating. Burial will be at Union Cemetery, West Brooklyn with military rites by VFW Post 4079. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7 and for one hour prior to services on Nov. 8 at the funeral home.
Mr. Mays was born Sept. 12, 1931 in Morris to Lee R. and Alice (Devotie) Mays. He married Kay Joan Ivlow on Feb. 1, 1969.
Survivors include his wife of West Brooklyn; one son, Mitchell Mays of West Brooklyn; two sisters, Ruth Nienaber of Rocklin, Calif. and Jean (Gene) Benner of Naperville; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Carl Lloyd and Robert Mays; and two sisters, Wilma Mays and Edna Shuman.
Mr. Mays was a 1949 graduate of Marseilles High School and attended the University of Illinois. He served with the U.S. Air Force as a radio operator during the Korean War. He was employed by CTS Knights in Sandwich as an electronics technician before retiring. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Ottawa and was a former church deacon. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking projects, and spending time in his backyard orchard.
