Charles F. Marks

Charles F. Marks, 80, of Zeeland, Mich., formerly of Paw Paw, died Oct. 3, 2009 at Spectrum Health Butterworth in Grand Rapids, Mich.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10 at the Paw Paw Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Wyoming Cemetery in Paw Paw. Visitation will take place from 5–8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9 at the Torman Funeral Home in Paw Paw.

Mr. Marks was born June 26, 1929 in Earlville to John and Eva (Kelly) Marks. He married Kathleen Rafferty on Oct. 8, 1949.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years; three daughters, Melissa (Hal) Lowe and Kelli Marks, both of Oswego, and Angela Cooper of Rockford, Mich.; one son, Chuck (Danette) Marks of Reno Nev.; and eight grandchildren, Andrew and Alexander Lowe of Illinois, Aubrey, Amanda and Chas Marks of California and Patrick, Will and Katelyn Cooper of Michigan.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Michael, his parents, two sisters and four brothers.

Mr. Marks served as a member of Patrol Squadron Eight of the U.S. Navy. He was employed at General Electric for over 30 years at plants in DeKalb, Holland, Mich. and Ft. Wayne, Ind. He was involved in many community activities during his life in Paw Paw - coaching Little League, as a Boy Scout leader, a member of the Paw Paw Fire Department, serving on the District 271 school board from 1967–1976 and he was a 50-plus year member of the American Legion. He was also very involved in planning and building the Paw Paw Community Building. He loved his family, his friends, his dogs, his garden and his fishing trips.
