Junene Carnahan

Junene Carnahan, 67, of Compton died Sept. 17, 2009 in the emergency room of Mendota Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11 at the Fox Valley Unity Church, 230 Webster St., Batavia. Rev. Glennie Smith and Licensed Unity Teacher Marge Orchard will co-officiate. Cremation rites have been accorded. A reception of sharing will take place at the church after services.
Ms. Carnahan was born Dec. 22, 1941 in Mendota to Donald and Dorothy J. (Gilmore) Carnahan.
Survivors include her best friend, Alana Ziegenmeyer of Compton; one brother, Doug Carnahan of Weymouth, Mass.; and one niece, Esta Carnahan (Paul Weiner) of Weymouth, Mass.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister-in-law, Maxine Carnahan.
Ms. Carnahan graduated from Mendota High School in 1959, received her undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado and then served with the U.S. Peace Corps in Columbia, South America for three years. She returned to the United States and earned her Master’s degree, then taught for eight years in Columbia, South America. She attended Fox Valley Unity Church in Batavia and was an avid gardener.
