PERU - Physician office receptionist Traci Farneti is the 2013 winner of the Buckman Family Employee of the Year Award at Illinois Valley Community Hospital.

“The compassion she shows is unbelievable,” said her nomination, which was made by an IVCH employee who wished to remain anonymous. “She treats her fellow workers and patients like they are her family and belong here. She is living proof of the mission. She provides exceptional care with a commitment to clinical excellence and compassion for every patient every day.”

Farneti is employed by the IVCH Medical Group Peru Medical Clinic located at 710 Peoria Street.

The nomination also praised Farneti for cleaning and straightening the office when needed, decorating for Christmas and shoveling snow. It also said she has taken medications to patients who could not get to the clinic to pick them up and regularly helps patients find coupons or other assistance so they can afford their medications.

A resident of Mendota, Farneti has been employed by IVCH since 2008.

Any IVCH employee may nominate any other employee for the Buckman Award, which was established in 1994 by the George Buckman family of Spring Valley. Buckman is a member of the IVCH board of directors and the IVCH Foundation board of directors. His wife, Elaine, is also a member of the IVCH Foundation board.

The non-employee members of the IVCH Foundation board select the winner of the award each year from the field of candidates nominated by IVCH employees. Twelve nominations were submitted this year.

Farneti is the 20th recipient of the Buckman award. Other 2013 finalists included:

• Melissa Balma, a registered nurse who works in the IVCH education department. “She worked weekends to orient those who couldn’t come during the week and stayed late to help others. She always thinks of the needs of the patients and the needs of the staff,” said a nomination from Maureen Rebholz, education department director. Balma is a resident of Hennepin.

• Occupational therapist Amy Bolelli, who receives patients at the IVCH Center for Physical Rehabilitation and Aquatics (CPRA). She was nominated by Jim Schaefer, physical rehabilitation services director, who said patients often stop him to praise Amy’s care. Bolelli lives in Peru.

• Athletic trainer Kayla Olson, who was also nominated by Schaefer. “Five words you will never hear Kayla say is ‘that is not my job,’” said Schaefer. “She understands the importance of always having a positive attitude and its benefits. Student athletes, wellness clients and patients feel very at ease and comfortable working with her.” Olson is a resident of Tonica.

• Adult Day Center driver Craig Vickery. “Craig is always in a good mood and has the best sense of humor,” said Janelle Mrowicki, ADC director. “He makes us all laugh and the clients adore him as well. He goes above and beyond to assure that each day is better than the next.” Vickery lives in LaSalle.
