MENDOTA – Bernice Spanier, who was honored as Mendota Area Senior Services Volunteer of the Year, donated 127 hours of her time in service to MASS. Spanier is an outgoing MASS board member, helps out at most of the MASS fundraisers, calls Bingo at the senior center, ties Blankets of Hope, and helps fold and label MASS’s quarterly newsletters and the annual fund drive appeal letter.

Spanier and other volunteers who helped MASS during the past year were honored at the volunteer recognition party held Wednesday, Jan. 23 at the Feik Senior Parlor in the Mendota Civic Center. Volunteers have donated countless hours of their time to help with driving seniors to out-of-town medical appointments, teaching Rules of the Road classes, serving pork chop dinner, spaghetti dinner, and baked potato bar, assisting with garage sale, lunch in the park, Save-A-Lot cookouts, tying fleece blankets for Blankets of Hope, mailing of newsletter and fund drive letters, fund-raising events, income tax assistance, and many other things necessary to help the staff in services for senior citizens.
