Phalens celebrate 60th anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Phalen will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Jan. 9. William and Sandra (Scherger) Phalen were married on Jan. 9. 1953 at Holy Cross Church in Mendota. They are the parents of five sons, Michael (Julie), Daniel (Teri), Douglas (Lori), Timothy (Jan), and Steven (Holly) and enjoy 14 grandchildren.

The Phalens lived their first four years in California where Bill served with the 15th Air Force Strategic Air Command. The couple returned to Mendota in 1957. Bill attended LPO Junior College in Peru and in 1962 formed Phalen Steel Construction Company which is presently owned by his five sons. Bill retired in 1998. He and Sandy reside west of Mendota.
