Posted: Friday, Feb 5th, 2010

Kelsey Neidetcher and Austin Schwingle
Two La Moille High School seniors earned the Good Citizenship Awards from the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR).

Teachers nominate students and then the senior class votes to select the winners. Kelsey Neidetcher, daughter of Ruth and Dan Neidetcher , and Austin Schwingle, son of Terri Schwingle and Dave Schwingle, exemplify the qualities that the DAR and SAR emphasize: dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism.

Kelsey has been active and both the La Moille community and the high school. Known for her ability to get things done, Kelsey especially likes helping anyone in need, volunteering her time, and leading groups efficiently. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the Student Council all four years and is currently treasurer, is Editor-in-Chief of the Yearbook Staff, and participatesin Scholastic Bowl, Operation Teen Safe Driving, Knitting Club, and Spanish Club. She plans to attend Augustana College to major in accounting or engineering.

Austin earned National Honor Society status at LHS while working nearly full time as co-owner of a landscaping business. In addition, he was chosen L-P Building Trades Student of the Year for 2009, played basketball all four years in high school, and is Vice –President of the new chapter of Future Farmers of America at LHS. Volunteering in the community is another focus for Austin; he cleans up after the La Moille Buffalo Days, works at Lions’ Club Breakfast fundraisers, and participates in other local fund drives as needed. His future plans include becoming a railroad man for the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe railway. He will also attend IVCC to pursue a welding degree.

”When these two seniors graduate, La Moille High School will miss their leadership and positive attitudes. They are great role models for others,” LHS guidance counselor Ms. Jeri Atherton stated.
