VFW announces Voice of Democracy and Patriot Pen contest winners

MENDOTA, Mendota VFW Post 4079 has announced the winners of the 2016-2017 Voice of Democracy and Patriot Pen essay contests. The Voice of Democracy winner is Haydon Schmidt, Mendota High School. Patriot Pen winners are 1st place-Sophia Holland, Northbrook School Mendota; 2nd place-Jacob Swope, Holy Cross School, Mendota; and 3rd place-Alex Mandujano, Holy Cross School, Mendota.

MENDOTA, Mendota Museum and Historical Society is seeking volunteer museum guides for the Hume-Carnegie Museum on Washington Street in Mendota. A docent meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 1 at 1:30 p.m.
"This is a good opportunity to meet people and learn about the history of the surrounding area," said Dar Wujek, MMHS executive director.
