STREATOR – The Mendota Spikers took top-seeded LaSalle-Peru to the three-set limit before falling to the Lady Cavs 25-16, 21-25, 25-8 in the semifinals of the Streator Class 3A Regional on Oct. 29. The Spikers concluded the season with a 20-12-2 record.
“The girls played tough against a formidable opponent, taking them to a third set with a nice win in the second set,” said MHS coach John Holzman. “We struggled in the third set and eventually lost.
“However, the girls should be commended on the fact they had a very productive season and the seniors will be missed tremendously.”
Kaitlyn Horn led the hitting game for Mendota with seven kills. Abby Bromenschenkel had an all-around solid match with five kills, six service points and nine digs, while Brooke Carroll had 20 assists and five service points. Also, Ally Bromenschenkel posted five kills and three blocks, Elivia Ambler had 10 digs and Amy Devitt recorded five kills.
L-P went on the win the regional championship by defeating Morris 25-9, 25-27, 28-26.
