Sweet Corn tennis tourney set

MENDOTA – The Mendota Area Chamber of Commerce, sponsor of the 66th Annual Sweet Corn Festival, which will be held, Aug. 8-11, has announced that preparations for the 2013 Sweet Corn Festival Tennis Tournament are being finalized.

Prescott Brothers, Inc. of Mendota will sponsor the Sweet Corn Festival Tennis Tournament. The SCF Tennis Tournament will still offer Junior and Adult Divisions, with the Juniors playing on Friday, Aug. 9 and Adults playing on Saturday, Aug. 10 and Sunday Aug. 11.

According to Tournament Director, Lynn Phalen, a first round consolation draw is featured, so everyone will be able to play a minimum of two matches. “Juniors will now play an 8 game pro set and Adults a 10 game pro set,” said Phalen.

The Junior events are boys and girls 13-under singles and 17-under singles and doubles, which again will all be played Friday, Aug. 9.

Adults are competing in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. Adult doubles and mixed doubles are on Saturday, Aug. 10. Adult singles will be held Sunday, Aug. 11.

All matches of this year’s tournament will again be played at the Mendota High School tennis courts on the high school grounds on U.S. 52 north of town.

Entry forms may be picked up at the Mendota Area Chamber of Commerce office and Sports-N-Stuff in Mendota. They may also be obtained at sweetcornfestival.com or by sending a SASE to Mendota Area Chamber of Commerce, PO Box 620, Mendota IL 61342.

The entry deadline is Wednesday, Aug. 7 at 4 p.m. All players registering by Thursday, Aug. 1, will receive a Sweet Corn Festival Tennis T-shirt. For more information, contact the Chamber office at (815) 539-6507.
