PLANO – Mendota’s boys’ and girls’ track teams participated in the Plano Track & Field of Dreams Invitational on April 20.
The Trojans were fifth in the standings out of 10 teams with 75.5 points. The top four spots were occupied by Westmont (144), Plano (127.5), Sandwich (125.5) and Mooseheart (88). Placing behind Mendota were Aurora Christian (69), Lisle (46.5), Somonauk (15), Serena (5) and Crossroads Christian (0).
Mendota’s best finish on the day belonged to Bryce Otterbach, who took second place in the 300-meter hurdles. His time was not available.
Seven fourth-place efforts helped the Trojans to a middle-of-the-pack finish in the team standings.
For the girls, the Lady Trojans were sixth overall with 58.5 points. Aurora Christian captured the team title with 128 points, followed by Plano (120), Lowell (116), Sandwich (106) and Westmont (76.5). The rest of the field included Serena (26), Somonauk (23), Lisle (15), Mooseheart (5) and Crossroads Christian (1).
Kaitlyn Horn came away with Mendota’s lone first-place finish as she bested teammate Elizabeth Willis in the discus with a distance of 108-5. Willis claimed two of the Lady Trojans’ three second-place showings. She had a throw of 105-6 in the discus and was second in the shot put with a toss of 34-8.75. The other second went to Mendota’s 4x200 relay team.
