Fourth quarter woes sink Trojans

Posted: Tuesday, Feb 19th, 2013

BYRON – Mendota played three good quarters, but the fourth was a disaster as it dropped a 65-49 decision to Byron in a Big Northern Conference game on Feb. 15 at Byron.

The Trojans were down 14-13 after the opening period and 26-25 at halftime. Mendota was still in the game after three, trailing just 43-40, but things went haywire in the final frame as Byron pulled away for the victory.

Three Trojans scored in double digits, led by Trae Blumhorst with 17 points. James Carroll was next with 12 and Austin O’Sadnick added 11. O’Sadnick led the club with 10 rebounds and Evan Carroll had five assists, while Evan Carroll and James Carroll had two steals apiece.

Mendota shot a cool 34 percent from the floor and made 63 percent of its free throws, while Byron connected on 55 percent of its field goal attempts and 76 percent of its free tosses.

The Trojans (16-11, 3-8) owned a huge 31-16 rebounding advantage and committed 16 turnovers compared to 10 for the Tigers.
