STILLMAN VALLEY – Mistakes proved costly to the Mendota varsity boys’ basketball team as it dropped a 60-55 decision to Stillman Valley in a Big Northern Conference contest on Feb. 8 at Stillman Valley.
The Trojans led 10-9 after the opening period, but Stillman Valley came back to post a 22-20 halftime lead. The Cardinals forged in front by a 43-38 count at the end of three periods.
“Too many mistakes was the difference in the game,” stated MHS coach Jan Thompson. “We missed many layup opportunities as well as shot only 50 percent from the free throw line. Stillman fed off their senior night and played extremely hard.”
Trae Blumhorst pumped in 22 points to pace the Trojans, while James Carroll connected for 17.
