O’FALLON – Mendota High School junior Cody Phalen participated in the IHSA Boys’ State Bowling Tournament held on Jan. 25-26 in O’Fallon.
Phalen finished in 66th place on day one and did not qualify for day two. The top 30 individuals not part of a team advanced to day two of the tournament.
Phalen bowled two rounds on opening day. In round one, he had games of 193, 193 and 233 for a 619 series. In round two, he had games of 215, 218 and 170 for a 603. His two-round total was 1,222.
Shane Matejcek of Lockport Township was the overall state champion with a series of 2,924 for an average of 243.7. Lockport also won the team title.
