The Mendota Trojan wrestlers resumed their season after a month-long hiatus for the holiday break by competing against Oregon and Sterling Newman on Jan. 8 at Oregon.
Against Oregon, the Trojans got forfeit wins from Toby Reutner at 106 pounds and Jaron Robinson at 120 pounds. At 170 pounds, MHS's Jake Spanier was pinned by Oregon's Brandon Skavanitis.
Against Newman, Mendota's lone win came from Robinson with a 12-5 decision over Eli Monier. Reutner and T.J. Christmann suffered losses by pin.

Two MHS wrestlers placed in the top five in the Kewanee Invitational on Jan. 12.
Robinson had the highest finish for the Trojans by taking second place in the 120-pound division. He started off with a 5-3 victory over Luke Roach of Illini Bluffs in the semifinals, then was beaten, 5-2, by Sherrard's Jacob Hast in the championship bout.
Spanier took fifth place in the 170-pound division. He pinned D.J. Ackman of Knoxville at the 1:57 mark in the fifth-place match.
Also competing for the Trojans were Christmann (1-2) at 132 and Ethan Wade (0-2) at 160.
Sherrard took top honors in the 12-team field with 220 points. The rest of the standings were Monmouth-Roseville (155.5), Illini Bluffs (143.5), IVC (143), Putnam County (115), Kewanee (104), Knoxville (87.5), Polo (84), Fulton (74), Mendota (30), Rockford Auburn (23) and Peoria Manual (15).
