MENDOTA The Mendota Police Department officially welcomed new officers to its force during a ceremony at the Mendota City Council meeting on Sept. 3.

Kyle Davis was sworn in as a full-time police officer, while Sara Jean Bunch, Samantha Holland, Amy Hutchisson and Ryan Krewer took the oath of office as part-time officers. Dan Shirey, chairman of the Police & Fire Commission, gave the oath to Davis, while city clerk Emily McConville did the honors for the part-time officers.

Davis served as an intern with the Mendota Police Department in 2008 when he was just 19 years old. He also served as a part-time officer in 2010, and in January 2011, he completed his police officer training.

In other items, Alderman Del Knowlton said that the public hearing for the conditional use request for property at 600 15th St. has been rescheduled for Thursday, Sept. 19 at 6 p.m.

It was noted that Phalen Steel Construction donated I-beams for the bridge at the north side of Lake Mendota. City officials thanked Phalen Steel for the donation, and added that the donation resulted in a significant cost savings to the city.

The next regular meeting of the Mendota City Council will be Monday, Sept. 16 at 6:30 p.m.
