MENDOTA - Mendota elementary and middle school students will finish out this school year with classes next week on Tuesday and Wednesday, then dismiss on Friday, May 31 at 9:30 a.m.
Summer school will begin June 17. Final numbers are still being calculated, but Beth Wackerlin, Northbrook School principal, noted at the May 15 Board of Education meeting that less than 20 students will probably need to attend the summer school program, down from last year’s approximately 40 students.
NMS will also offer a summer lunch program. Section 20 of the Childhood Hunger Relief Act was amended by Public Act 096-0734. This legislation requires a school district to implement a summer lunch program for the duration of the summer school program in all schools in which 50 percent or more of the student population is eligible for free or reduced-priced meals and that have a summer school program. The school must feed the children in the summer school program and open the doors to the community children. Northbrook School will operate a summer program weekdays from June 17 through July 19 with the exception of July 4. Northbrook will be open for lunch on each of these days from 11:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
