MENDOTA – The Mendota City Council approved several requests and handled other items of business at its Feb. 18 regular meeting.
Alderman Walt Weiland informed the council that the relining of some sections of the city's sewer system will be taking place in the near future. He said the residents in the areas in which the lining will be taking place will be informed of the work by a notification hung on their front door.
During Alderman Bill Hunt's report, the council agreed to a five-year commitment to participate in the I&M Canal National Heritage Corridor, which promotes tourism in the area. There is no cost to the city for this participation.
Hunt also acknowledged that the first round of the 2014 budgeting process has taken place and round two is coming soon.
In action from Alderman Justin Setchell's report, the council approved a video gaming license for Mendota Moose Lodge.
In an item presented by Alderman Jim Fitzpatrick, council approval was given to a request by the Mendota First! Ministries to use the city soccer fields for an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 23.
Under Mayor David Boelk's business, the council agreed to two requests for tag days. The March for Babies Tag Day sponsored by Technisand, Inc., will take place from 8 a.m.-noon on Saturday, April 13 at the intersection of Main and Meriden streets. At the same intersection, a Fourth of July Fireworks Tag Day sponsored by the Mendota Area Chamber of Commerce will be held from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, June 29.
Mayor Boelk said that a City of Mendota “After Hours Event” will be held on Thursday, Feb 28 at 5:30 p.m. at the Mendota Civic Center. The event, also sponsored by the Mendota Area Chamber of Commerce, will allow attendees to meet city officials and hear about recent and upcoming developments throughout the city. Appetizers and beverages will be provided.
A Candidates' Night is also scheduled for the Mendota Civic Center on Thursday, April 4 at 7 p.m. sponsored by the Mendota Area Chamber of Commerce, WGLC/Radio Group and Mendota Business and Professional Women's Club.
The next regular meeting of the Mendota City Council will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 4.
