Carroll Van Norden

Carroll W. Van Norden, 72, of LaMoille died July 27, 2009 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 30 at Community United Methodist Church, LaMoille with Rev. Martha Wendel-Caputo officiating. Burial will be at Greenfield Cemetery, LaMoille with military rites by VFW Post 4079. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29 at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota.

Mr. Van Norden was born March 18, 1937 in Grinnell, Iowa to Casey J. and Leona (Wynn) Van Norden. He married Gladys Ward on April 20, 2002 in LaMoille.

Survivors include his wife of LaMoille; one daughter, Jackie (John Leeper) Meyer of Blairstown, Iowa; one step daughter, Deborah (Bill) Bradley of LaMoille; two step sons, Jim (Andrea) Schwingle of Peru and Dave (Maryanne) Schwingle of LaMoille; 10 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one brother, Ray (Sharon) Van Norden of Belle Plain, Iowa; and three sisters, Joyce (Cliff) Anthony of Brooklyn, Iowa, Mary (George) Gutierrez of DeKalb and Connie (Jim) Kasel of Belle Plain, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Mr. Van Norden was employed as a truck driver for 36 years before his retirement. He was also a musician with two traveling bands, The Moonlighters and The Vagabonds.
